Nocturne Alchemy Reviews

Eternal Luxor
NA Amber, Golden Egyptian Fig, Creamy Coconut Milk and Toasted Coconut Oil.

Coconut tamped by the amber and milk. Not a tropical scent at all. It's actually beautiful and very wearable. Also on a totally different stratosphere than coconut moonstone so trying both would be wise!

Eternal Egypt
White Amber, Red Egyptian Musk, Egyptian Amber and the sands of Egypt. A beautiful enrapturing scent.

Liking this! I think the sand note goes much better in this for me than Eternal Ankh. Which is bizarre because I'm a vanilla addict. This smells so rich and smooth. Also another note.. BPAL's red musk note is a HUGE turnoff for me.. it smells like cherry musk or something. The red musk in this is totally (and I mean TOTALLY) different. I don't smell any red fruit at all in this. Just a very smooth beautiful scent. No wonder it's their Signature Scent. I'm so glad I picked this up even though I was so afraid of the red musk in the description.

Vanilla Necropolis
Egyptian Red Amber, Black Rose, Egyptian Red Musk, Sweet Amber, Allspice, French Vanilla, Persian Vanilla, Vanilla Bean and Vanilla absolute. The complete aspect follows with the Purple Rose of Cairo, Egyptian Vanilla Absolute and a deeper Vanilla Necropolis resolution.

Rose! Pretty! *boots the musk out* No likely rose smells mixed with musty musk or patchouli. At least the musk isn't the biggest note. The rest of it is quite lovely and very wearable. It's not the loud in-your-face rose that a lot of scents have but a beautiful well-behaved jammy rose. The amber is very pretty mixed in. For all the vanilla notes in the description I can't smell any of them. My nose is broken or something!

Bassima
A soft coconut, butter and warm sugar scent enriched with subtle nutmeg and fig.

I smell the coconut and nutmeg mostly. It's pretty. Close to the skin. Faint (my experience with Malban too.. how odd) Now I can smell the green of the fig. It's lovely. Doesn't really smell foody to me.

Malban
Quite simply it is a luxurious caramel, vanilla, walnut and sugar delight.

I don't really smell the meat of the walnut but the shell (if that makes any sense). Also smell the caramel. It seems very faint to me. Very very faint. I wish it was stronger. Maybe this needs to age .. alot. Because what I can smell of it smells lovely.

Bes
Vanilla Cream Vapour, Caramelized Egyptian Sugar Dust, Vanilla Musk, Cardamom, Sandalwood and Egyptian Black Clove Buds.

Interesting! I very definitely smell the clove but it's a sweet pretty almost dainty clove. The faint scent of something almost incensy and musty (maybe the musk?) I like this.. definiltely another of my comfy in jeans reading book by a window where it's raining outside. This is a really pretty smooth yet spicy scent. Feminine. I smell all of the notes. (not a huge musk/patchouli girl admittedly). I like this. I wouldn't consider this foody at all.

Nocturne Alchemy reviews

The bottles themselves feel really nice. The labels are shiney and gold which I thought I wouldn't like. I do. The cap feels nice and the top is nicely rounded just a touch. They have reducer caps but the scent flows through them well (I have to beat my bottles against my skin with Conjure caps for some reason).

My favorites right off are Apricot Kobalt, Raspberry Kobalt/Egyptian Black Raspberry and Coco Nilla Bats.

Eternal Ankh
White Amber, Powdered and reconstructed oil of Egyptian Vanilla Husk, Vanilla fleck, African White Vanilla and the scent of soft Egyptian Sands.

Interesting. I don't smell the vanilla so much as this unidentifiable note. It smells airy and delicate. I have no idea how I can review this. lol It's pleasant and girly and almost smells like a flower I've never smelled before if that makes sense. It almost blooms. I'm probably going to have to come back and change this once I have some NA experience so I can try to explain what I'm smelling. In the meantime try it out. It's very unique.

Apricot Kobalt
African Apricot, Apricot Cream, Vanilla Cream, Nokturne:Kobalt. A delicious way to spend an afternoon. Purrrrrrrrrr.

LOVE this! I associate apricots with Beatrix Potter so this scent reminds me of Miss Moppet, Ginger, Mrs. Tittlemouse, Timmy Tiptoes and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle. It's so comforting and beautiful. I am madly in love with the underlying kobalt vanilla. It is the warm vanilla cakey vanilla of my dreams with just the slightest note of apricots. Not a bright sharp apricot but a smooooth almost earthy beautiful apricot. Big hit with me. I highly recommend.

Raspberry Kobalt
Aromatic Egyptian Raspberry, rich Egyptian Vanilla (Nokturne:Kobalt). Simplicity.

How lovely! I smell the beautiful Kobalt vanilla (I haven't tried many of the vanillas yet but I am in love with this) and a very real raspberry which is juicy and ripe. No candy or strawberry shortcake smell-o-dolly on me.

The vanilla balance makes this a wearable, beautiful raspberry scent. This is a happy scent and one I can see wearing often. The throw seems really nice as well!

Egyptian Black Raspberry
Egyptian Black Raspberry with the subtlety of vanilla and fig. Enrapturing to say the least. This mingled with the sweat of your skin could lead to a very very intoxicating night ahead.

A brighter and almost greener (fig?) raspberry than Raspberry Kobalt. I guess now I can smell the vanilla and how it smooths it out in the Raspberry Kobalt scent. This is super yummy though. I can't really name a favorite of the two because they both smell so beautiful and simliar. If I had to use one word to describe each Black Egyptian Raspberry would be bright. Raspberry Kobalt would be smooth.

This is not the fig of philosykos (which is the only fig scent I have ever smelled). It's a green bright fig. Quite yummy.

Coconut Moonstone
Egyptian Coconut Husk, Nokturne:Moonstone (The true Husk, black and white Fleck, essence and whole of African White Vanilla with a kiss of Crystalline) and a drop of peach to nuance the natural sweetness of the blend; a perfume blend for summer days and summer nights.

Yep! Coconut. I happen to love coconut so it doesn't dissapoint. It hasn't gone plasticky on me at all and it smells smooth. My nose isn't attuned enough to the variations of basenotes in NA scents so I dont think I pick up the vanilla. It's nice though.

Coco 'Nilla Bats
Warm Halloween Cocoa, little marshmallows floating around in there, Vanilla of Crystalline and Crystal Nokturne, a few drops of Nokturne: Aurora (imported from Paris, French Vanilla and aged to perfection) sleeping peacefully in a tree full of quiet and intoxicating Egyptian Musk and a drop of Amber. Oh and some candy corn...for good measure and a spoon full of chocolate cake batter.

Bunch of dry chocolate up in the bottle and on my skin initially. Not unpleasant but akin to sticking my nose in a can of hershey's chocolate milk powder. Minutes later it's becoming warmer.. almost as if it's being warmed into a hot chocolate sauce. Oh wow.. first impression was.. cool. powered chocolate. But only a few minutes it and it's blooming into a super sexy vanilly chocolate scent. My boyfriend across the room perked up and said "do you smell chocolate??" lol. It's stroooong.. *PERFECT*  You have to get this before it is gone!

Carnival Wax Reviews

10/20 Followup: I was dying to somehow get a bottle of Pearl but having worn it a few times since it almost changes on any given day. One or two days I had to scrub it off because it smelt off. Since it seemed so volatile I've scrubbed.. err scratched any of these off my to buy list.

I managed to avoid getting samples of Carnival Wax oils for years because they're so expensive and I didn't want to fall in love with any of them. I love the marketing.

I've heard mixed reviews about the scents and the company. Most people love them but think they're overpriced. They think the company is very detached and snottish. There's been many reviews about what a small amount you receive in their fairly expensive sample packs ($15 for three scents).

Pearl
Wood Notes, White Coconut Musk, and Creamy Vanilla.

This smells so rich. I swear I smell vetiver in this mixed with a creamy vanilla. Also can smell the coconut musk. This is lovely and sexy. It almost makes me feel more confident wearing it. As it warms on my skin I can smell the complexity of the wood notes. Not a pencil shaving to be found. It smells like an old wooden desk in an abandoned mauseleum with a bubble pot of creamy vanilla mixed lightly with a musky coconut oil on a warm, breezy night.

 I think the throw and lasting power is on par with most other oils I've tried which means it's not strong enough nor lasts long enough. Which given the pricepoint I'm a bit dissapointed in. If I was rich I'd snap this up in a minute and slather to my hearts content. It's very pretty.

1 hour later: This has evolved into the most beautiful skin scent i've smelt in a long time. The wood notes are just heartbreaking but in a good way. Very romantic scent. I'm not even sure I mind it being close to the skin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clowncake
Buttery Vanilla Frosted Birthday Cake. Boozy, Honey-Whipped Cream filling
Gahhhhh!! Another one I love. This is a foody's dream. Also I could even see non-foody people loving this. All the notes in the description I can smell in this glorious melange of yumminess. The boozy isn't what I thought it would be. There's no reason you couldn't wear this in a work enviroment. The honey-whipped cream is gorgeous.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sugarwitch
Top notes of Juicy Lemons and Tangerines followed by Sweet Sugary Cookies finished with a Sexy Woodsy bottom.

*LOVE*. Lemon iced cookies is what I smell straight off. This is something I would love to stick my nose in and smell forever. The wood mixed with the lemons grounds it so well. There is not a whiff of Pledge in this. Out of the three this is flirting for first place with Pearl. While Pearl is  sexy jeans with leather jacket and tall boots, Sugarwitch is jeans with velvet and laced boots.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I received three other samples: Nadramia, Black Amber & Druglord but I'm going to stop here and review the three others later.
Of the three I've sampled so far I love them ALL. Clowncake is wonderful and what I thought would be my favorite but is firmly in third. I am torn between Sugarwitch and Pearl because both are equally gorgeous and for two different moods. I'm going to see how these wear and how long they last and I'll give it a mention in my followup review with the last three.
All in all I am now HEAVILY craving a bottle of Pearl and Sugarwitch. Has anyone else tried these? What are your favorites?
Blooddrop Review
Annnnd another box came my way.
Astrid at Blooddrop is a sweetheart. She included as extras a free lipstick, and 2 adorable soaps in the scent " Pumpkin Pie at the Diner after Rocky". Also Hallowmas was sold out but she found one last bottle for me.
Hallowmas
Sacred season of visiting spirits, of nature closing down to sleep and the fleeting days of the long sun. Soft red musk, honey absolute, caramel covered apples, sweet orange, seasonal spices, butter CO2, marshmallow cream.
Ooo buttery and autumny with caramel apples strongly in the background but not taking over the top notes. This is a unique autumn scent. Very smooth, nothing sharp or loud. Well mixed. I like it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At the Diner After Rocky
The usual food trip after the RHPS brings a group of all sorts: some Goths, some SCA-ers and Gamers, the really odd old guy who still might live in his mom’s basement and that really hot guy you’re too shy to talk to. The selection of meals ordered was just as bizarre as the people, but one favorite was blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup and maple syrup!

OH WOW! I've only worn this for 30 minutes but I have to say that this zips into my top 25 for CERTAIN and possibly top 10 favorite perfume oils of all time. I *love* blueberry pancakes with waffles. My ass can attest to the fact that it's one of my favorite comfort foods. And this smells just like blueberry waffles covered in maple syrup. But.. it's also WEARABLE. I'm not sure on throw or lasting power. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it has both and will probably update this at some point. But you need to try this out if you like blueberries at all. I rarely, if ever, order backup bottles but this is going on my christmas list.

Violette Market Diablo Canyon

Lori at Violette Market was wonderful to deal with. I was on the fence about which scents to purchase and she took the time to go back and forth with me a few times to narrow down my selection. Each of the bottles are wrapped in small different colored organza bags.

Fireflies
Lydia's golden fireflies glowing among raw agave sugar crystals, toasted marshmallow creme, and a pinch of golden amber dust.

I'm a little dissapointed in this oil. I was expecting a sugary vanilla marshmellow explosion and it smells like Pumpkin spiced. There's no question that to me (and a couple others) this smells exactly like Pumpkin both in the bottle and on all three of our wrists. For a pumpkin it's rather nice but I have many pumpkin oils and don't really need another.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lydia's Firefly Lanterns
White peach, warmed sandalwood, golden amber, honey sugar, cedar wood, white autumn rose, blond vetiver, and sparkling pink and gold fairy dust.
Interesting. I'm not really sure what I'm smelling. Smells perfumey again. Not foody at all. Maybe it's the rose that Im not liking in this scent.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Letters on the Wind
Coconut water, cotton blossom, spiced rum, golden musk, raw Greek honey, bergamot peel, frankincense, and rose geranium.

This smells very perfumey to me. There's a note in here I know I don't like from past experiences but I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe violet? Smells a bit like an old fashioned musty perfume to me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two Samples:
Pumpkin Coach
A shimmering, glistening display of sugared pear, frankincense, golden quince, gardenia buds, raspberry roses, vanilla orchid, pink jasmine, and the magic dust sprinkled on one unsuspecting orange pumpkin.
Ooo I love this. An almost watery floral. I adore gardenia and I can smell this very well. This definitely goes on my list for a full bottle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Grandmother
Warm hugs, and the comforts of home from oatmeal porridge, vanilla tea cakes, blueberry scones, creamed honey, and orange blossom marmalade.

Hmm.. I like this too. It smells creamy and comforting. I can smell the blueberry which makes me very happy and the bowl of oatmeal swirled with vanilla. I love this!! The marmalade seems tucked back in the first 10 minutes. I am so glad I have a bottle of this coming to me. I can see wearing this often.

*********************************************************

The three bottles I ordered were strike-outs with me and I fell in love with the two samples I received. Especially Grandmother. Just my luck!

Blooddrop Autumn Scents Review

Apple Cider Doughnuts

Yep. The hype is real. This stuff is like liquid crack. I'm not usually a big fan of wearing appley scents. The apple notes is typically too sharp on me. But this is a very smooth apple. Smells like apple cider doughnuts. Make sure and pick up a bottle!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plymouth Pear
LOVE THIS. I love pear! This is a great pear. Smells juicy and fresh. I'm going to enjoy layering this with some of my other favorites. Restraining myself from grabbing another bottle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Soleil

What a bright and happy scent. I smell champagne peaches. Not very complex but lovely for what it is. I'm going to store this until the spring.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Delicieuse
I smell a musky peppermint and little else. I think this is the only fail with my body chemistry in the batch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I find the first samples I've received from Blooddrop to be strong with a nice throw. Astrid who owns Blooddrop is super nice and so accomodating. She also threw in a few really nice freebies.

 I'm looking forward to ordering more from Blooddrop!

BPAL Halloweenies Review

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Halloweenies! *tackles mailman*

Witch Dance
Bonfire smoke rising through a cloud of ceremonial incense, encircled by swirling autumn leaves and a dribble of blood red musk.

Wow. Very red musky. I smell this in ALOT of bpal scents to the point that they all blend in my head. I'm not really sure what red musk IS but to me it smells like a musk mixed with cherry or some other red berry. I smell a tiny bit of bonfire smoke and something a little musky but not unpleasant. This is a sexy scent. Another win on owning a bottle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pumpkin V
Lightly spiced pumpkin pulp swirled with bourbon vanilla, French vanilla, and raw vanilla bean.
I have a BUNCH of BPAL pumpkin scents and this is right up there with my favorite one. In fact, I think I've got enough of a sampling that I won't ever need another BPAL pumpkin scent again. They all share the same pumpkin note (which is not a squashy pumpkin smell but a spiced pumpkin smell that is a bit sharp). This particular blend is very "smooth". I can't really pick out the vanillas but I do like this alot and it's one of the more wearable scents for me. (Mango Infused Pumpkin Chai was a disaster on me).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mischief
The scent of petty vandalism: toilet paper wads on damp maple trees, squished pumpkins, raw eggs, beer, pumpkin seed hulls, and soapy glass.

I smell cucumber! I'm reviewing these before I put in the scent description to try to pick out more notes and see if I'm correct. But I'm getting a very definite cucumber scent. Almost like cucumber dill finger sandwiches. It's lovely. Smells nothing like halloween or autumn to me and really doesn't even seem to smell like ANY of my order. Strange. Cucumber. Interesting. lol

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Halloween at Miskatonic University
library, yellowed books, polished oak tables, pumpkin latte, trace of cologne
Nice. Miskatonic University is in my top 10 BPAL scents. This smells basically nothing like it whatsoever. A common concern was that it would amp mens cologne. It doesn't. I smell the book scent in the original and something almost floral. I am almost tempted to say I smell the squashy pumpkin that I think is illusive in BPAL's catalog too. It's a very nice scent. Wearable. Not extremely loud. I could see wearing this. Glad I have a bottle!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From the regular catalog:

Lyoness
Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss.

Flowery. But I know from an imp that this ages into a luscious golden amber with smooth vanilla in the background. Recommended.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bread and Butterfly
Bread, lightly buttered, with weak tea, cream, and a lump of white sugar.
This smells like lovely bread with sugar and the soft scent of tea in the background. I've never sampled anything like this from BPAL and I'm impressed. Its almost genius in it's balance. I find this not very foody and very wearable. I'll have to give it a prolonged test but my initial impression is that I'll be wearing this alot. It's very comforting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Eat Me
Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.

Pink cake! Almost like sticking your nose in a warm yellow cake fresh from the over with warm berry frosting. It's really lovely and another I went from imp to bottle.

Penny and Leonard Chemistry

I'm new to The Big Bang Theory (I know! Where have I been??). I'll admit I'm not a big fan of sitcoms in general (or tv really) but I've fallen in love with the show! It's exceeded my other surprising favorite The New Girl somehow.

I've watched seasons 1-4 and it makes me laugh my ass off. I adore Sheldon. Howard's girlfriend/wife is adorable. Raj and Howard are good supporting characters. Leonard and Penny are great. The only thing that really bothers me is the chemistry between Leonard and Penny. I'm sure part of it is written in but I think the rest comes from the actors. In The New Girl there is almost tangible chemistry between Zooey and Jake's characters. In fact they were told to tone it down.

In Big Bang Theory I really want Leonard and Penny to end up together. I think they're cute together. But Penny's character is always lamenting she doesn't really have any passion for Leonard.. unless they aren't together. Which is either her characters inability to commit or the actors just really have no chemistry. Which is a shame. Because, in theory (har har), they both seem so awesome together in a long term married type of way.

I'm hoping I'm not spoiling it for anyone but I weathered their first breakup and somehow got through it *sniffle*. I got through his thing with Priya (who was totally not for Leonard). And Penny and Leonard are back together but another breakup seems to be looming. NOOOOO!!! Stop toying with my heart! Let them work it out and throw the actors in a room together with some silly string and crisco with fingers crossed hoping it brings out some chemistry. But don't break them up again!

Perfume Oils in general

I have a HUGE bunch of halloween/autumn samples coming from a bunch of different companies this year: BPAL, House of Gloi, Arcana, Haunt, Blooddrop, Carnival Wax, Conjure Oils, Violette Market. In 2006 - 2008 I was pretty addicted to testing and swapping for bottles of perfume oils then took a break for years.

I took the break because I fell in love with the Jo Malone line, Lavanila Pure Vanilla and Lush Vanillary. I also like a few other perfumes that are on rotation. I really enjoy Apothia's Child perfume which is a beautiful simple floral that is an oil and lasts a loooong time and is really easy to overapply. In fact, I almost cleared out a church wearing it one Sunday morning because I was in a hurry and swiped it one or two times too many.

So my problem with all of these etailers oils is that none really last and none really have throw. I mean, I probably could dump 3/6 of the vial of most of these on my skin and clothes and it would fade in an hour and I wouldn't leave any scent trail (sillage) behind me as I leave a room. Which is a problem.

I don't feel like anyone should inflict a cloud of intense perfume on the people around them. But I do enjoy being able to smell my own perfume. I also even like smelling other beautifully smellng women. You can usually tell a lot about someone by the scents they choose. And don't even get in to men's cologne. Yumm.

So if you can suggest an oil that is super strong. That you need to use a light hand to apply. That is feminine and lasts at least a couple hours. Please leave a comment with it's name and where I can test it out!

Solstice Scents review

Foxcroft
Ozone, Rustling Leaves, Rich Black Soil, Chimney Smoke & Woods

Moss! Rich black soil! I get both very strongly. As if I fell, face first, into the moss surrounding an old oak tree deep in the woods with a rich black turned up soil. How peculiar. Never smelt anything like it. I'm not even sure this is wearable. Perhaps as a base for something. I think this also smells like if you stick your nose deep into a gigantic bouquet of babys breath. Or fresh, turned up soil with ripped up chunks of green moss on grave at midnight in new england. Very weird, unique and interesting scent. I recommend you pick up a sample just to try it out. It's pretty creepy.

10 minutes later: Still pretty much the same.

20 minutes: It chillled out. It's not so in-your-face wet soil and moss but more of an undertone. Not sure if this is because it's faded almost completely or if it is an intended.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Manor
Woody-Vanilla Musk, Vanilla Accord, Glorious Black Agarwood & Exquisite Aloeswood
Smoky vanilla laying on a richly scented just hewn block of wood. Nice scent, not too complex just a cuddly but sophisticated vanilla mix.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cocoa Mallow
Devilish Dark Chocolate & Fluffy Sweet Marshmallows

Wow hot cocoa!! This smells great. Heck if I know what a marshmallow smells like because all I smell is a great big steamy cup of hot cocoa. Almost like Serendipity II in NYC. Not sure on the throw and lasting power but this is great stuff.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Witch's Cottage
Warm Baked Goods, Dried Herbs, Sweet Annie, Soft Woods & Fragrant Hearth Smoke
Oh yummy. Cinnamon buns and warm loaves of bread. I smell the rich wood like an old butchers block with old herbs on it. I smell a touch of cinnamon but a nice earthy touch, not strong and I usually amp cinnamon. The brown sugar starts to peep out and it does settle into a soft woods and hearth smoke scent. And wow. I actually love this. It's very comforting. I'd reorder this.
10 mins later: Wow.. morphy. This is settling in to almost a clean but yummy scent. Not much throw and not really that strong. Still enjoy it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kitchen
Pumpkin, Sugar Cookies, Peach Preserves, Spice Breads, Danishes, Caramel, Vanilla & Sweet Wood Smoke

Mostly I smell the peach reserves in this. Which is a little disconcerting. And the peach leans towards smelling like celery on my skin for some reason. Not my favorite.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cafe Mallowmel
Rich Coffee Flavored with Decadent Caramel & Sweet Marshmallow Cream
Has the same musty smell that seems to be a theme throughout the majority of the scents I received. I'm really not sure what it is. I do smell the coffee (black) if I press my nose against my wrist. No throw and this didn't last long (maybe a half hour) I will say that I do enjoy the coffee smell and I wish it was stronger and I could live without whatever the musty basement smell is.
10 mins later: it's settled into a rich coffee smell. Still very light.. still no throw. Shame because I'm enjoying the scent when I stick my nose against my wrist. The musty smell seems to be gone now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Harvest Moon
Apples, Pumpkin, Butternut Squash, Roasted Chestnuts &  Spices

I smell a bit of apple mixed in with a fresh pumpkin smell (not the spicy pumpkin pie smell). I smell a little of the chestnut and what I assume is the squash mellowing out the whole mix.The spices also. Hmm. smells basically how it is described. If you're going to buy this you need to buy it now. What is left on her website is the last of this forever unless she reformulates.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack & and the Devil
Vanilla, Tobacco, Oakmoss, Amber, Patchouli, Sweet Pumpkin & Soft Spice
Patchouli. That's what I smell right off the bat. I do smell a bit of the tobacco entwined with the patchouli. I smell the mustyness that I've picked up in some of the other oils. I smell leather for some reason. I don't smell any of the pumpkin or spice. On me this smells like basically straight up patchouli and tobacco with a hint of what I guess is the oakmoss.
10 minutes later: still patchouli. I dont really like patchouli.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Samples of:

Nightgown
Vanilla, White Chocolate, Tuberose & Tiare Flowers

My favorite. This is utterly lovely. Strong rich buttery flowers. Didn't last on me as long as the others but who cares. :) I plan on ordering a bottle.

Cenobite
A Deep & Rich Vanilla

I'll have to come back to this in a future update. My nose feels like it's going to explode.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My favorites from this bunch are Nightgown, Witch's Cottage, Harvest Moon, Manor and Cocoa Mallow. In general I haven't found any of the ones I tried to last very long and no need to apply sparingly since they aren't that strong to my nose. More of skin scents.
What's even weirder and I haven't run into this before is that all of these scents had a very graceful cycle of morphing. They all seem to smell different from the start to the finish when they finally mellow out.
Do I like anything, yes definitely. Do I LOVE anything. No, not really. But you may find something you love.
Nice company with super nice owners who were more than accomodating with me on my questions. I'd recommend checking them out.
Williams Sonoma Spiced Chestnut
Another fall favorite is Williams Sonoma Spiced Chestnut hand lotion and liquid soap. One of my favorite stores that I can't afford a blessed thing inside as well! lol
Description: Scented with the warm essence of chestnuts, aromatic cinnamon, clove and other premium essential oils and essences.
The lotion smells like buttery warm chestnuts with vanilla and tiny bit of cinnamon spice. It's very unique. The lotion is moisturizing as is the soap.
It's almost like walking inside a Williams Sonoma store in the fall and winter with that amazing smell of cooking fall / winter goodies.
While in the store I also grabbed some Pumpkin Pecan Quick Bread mix and Pecan Pumpkin Butter. Yummy. Pecan anything is a big hit at my house and I don't expect the bread to stick around long.
My Solstice Scents fall oils were delivered so I'll be posting a review soon!
Conjure Oils Review: Whore of Babylon
Included in the Top 5 companies with the strongest oils with the best throw and lasting power is Conjure Oils. I have only had a couple of their scents but both are very strong and last forever. I'm really looking forward to trying more when finances allow.
I came across my 3 year old bottle of Whore of Babylon which is included in Conjure Oils Mythos section of their webiste and wanted to give a quickie review for anyone who is looking for a new scent.
Whore of Babylon
A wanton blend of a fallen starlet: scorched vanilla, champagne and pink diamonds. Our most popular fragrance has been restored to is former glory!
Like I mentioned this is very strong and happy. I smell the champagne and the pink fruity smell. I don't really smell any vanilla but I believe that it just smooths out the bright pink bubbly top notes. This smells almost like a citrus ice cream. I toss this in my purse when I am just going out casually. Luckily and probably my *favorite* thing about this oil is it's strong and lasts a long time and has throw. That has been very rare in my foray into most of the rave perfume houses.
I have various oils on my wish list. Right now I'm craving from their Halloween line:
Abandoned Morgue: Ghost of a bonfire, tonka bean, vanilla bourbon, Zanzibar clove, black amber and dark Indonesian patchouli.
Also:
Morrigan: Murders of ravens shriek hungrily over a battlefield: Smoky amber, white narcissus and bloody rose blossoms wilt in the night air
Mlle. Eva Martin: Toasted coconut, caramelized vanilla bean, peach, and heady magnolia ignited with red musk.
And from their Toby Daye collection the scent I really really want to try is:
May Daye: The Fetchingly sweet smell of burnt sugar and ashes, like a bonfire on the carnival midway.  Have your ticket ready at the door.
I've heard it smells like marshmallows held over a campfire with the outside all black and crunchy and the gooey hot marshmallow goo inside. Gooey Marshmallow... bonfire.... burnt marshmallow outside.. YUMM!
BPAL Fraggle Rock and Lemon Scented Sticky Bat
photo: we heart this
I recently received a couple oils from the Fraggle Rock collection at BPAL. When my daughter was little she would watch this show constantly so it brings up fond memories for me. The collection features 8 new scents from the brilliant Beth of Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs.
I had a hard time deciding which one of these cute little bottles to pick ($26) but finally settled on Gobo and Boober.
Gobo:
Gobo is the natural leader of the Fraggle Five. He is an explorer, spending his days charting the unexplored (and explored-but-forgotten) regions of Fraggle Rock. Gobo is following, often quite literally, in the footsteps of his Uncle Travelling Matt Fraggle, the greatest living Fraggle explorer.
Tangerine, lemon peel, sugared pink grapefruit, and vanilla cream.
 I love this. It's so bright and playful and is surprisingly complex. It smells childlike without being unwearable. A clean lemony cloud scent that goes perfectly with a pair of jeans and a tshirt. I love creamy lemon scents especially mixed with vanilla and this doesn't dissapoint.
Boober:
According to Boober Fraggle, there are only two things certain in this world: death and laundry. Boober is terrified by the former and fascinated by the latter. He is also paranoid and superstitious. According to Boober, anything that can go wrong surely will, and when it does, it will inevitably happen to him.
A fretfully clean scent: freshly-washed laundry, linden blossom, soap suds, and a sprinkle of vanilla.
I'm addicted to the perfumes in the Clean series just for their fresh laundry like scents. They have almost no lasting power but their Shower Fresh and Clean Cotton mists are constantly being sprayed on my sweatshirts or towels etc. Boober reminds me of these but *better*. It is longer lasting and I can pop it in my purse (and have). It is a definitely a fresh laundry scent but the smell of the linden blossom mixes so very well that it is just a pretty little song of a scent.
I *love* both of these and if you have a chance definitely make sure to test or buy a bottle.
I also had the chance to try a couple more scents:
Lemon Scented Sticky Bat
Sticky-sweet iced lemon sugar!
This oil is a limited edition based on a blog post by Neil Gaiman. It is a beautiful lemony mess. It shares a lot of the same feeling of Gobo but the lemon is brighter and sharper. I enjoy it alot. This reminds me of Fresh's Sugar Lemon which is another long time standby for me. An invigorating, fresh sugary lemon scent that is very pretty in it's simplicity.
Mouse Circus
A toodle oodle of pink cotton candy noses, vanilla spun sugar fur, scattered kernels of popcorn, and a touch of polished golden wood.
Wow! This smells a lot like what BPAL's Midway smells to me. It reminds me of the smell of popcorn balls with the melty sugary caramel covering the salty buttery popcorn. It's salty sweet. Some people smell watermelon (I don't) and it dries down to a very pretty vanilla musk.
 I think it's very wearable and has good throw and sillage thou it faded on me after an hour or so (which seems to be normal for.. well, everything! drat!)
Jo Malone Reviews
Other than my love for oils my absolute favorite perfume house is Jo Malone and my favorite perfume in the line is Nectarine Blossom & Honey.
A youthful and fruity fragrance, Nectarine Blossom & Honey is inspired by the delicious scent of just-ripening nectarines and a taste of refreshing peach sorbet. Mouthwatering nectarine and peach with hints of plum, black currant and vetiver are combined with the sweet warmth of acacia honey in this truly seductive combination.
This smells absolutely beautiful. It is a fresh honey laced with the juicy smell of nectarines. I layer with Wild Bluebell or Agave & Cocoa.
Another favorite from the line is Wild Bluebell. It was released Fall of 2011 and it has a sweet and innocent scent to it. I also like layering it with the Nectarine Blossom & Honey.
Deliciously dewy, this cologne drenches the skin with the delicate scent of bluebells. Luminous with lush persimmon, lily of the valley and eglantine. Mesmerising.
The beautiful ad campaign features bunnies and bluebells and is adorable with the exception of one image which has a zombie girl.
The latest scent in the line is Blackberry & Bay. I had expected another clean, bright and fruity perfume but this is definitely more earthy (it actually smells like dark moist soil to me).
Childhood memories of blackberry picking… stained lips, sticky palms. A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with the freshness of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. A vibrant and verdant fragrance.
All of Jo Malone's scents smell so fresh and natural. There is only one drawback (other than the price, they retail for about 55 dollars for a small bottle and 110 for the larger bottle) and that is that they all fade so quickly. They last about an hour on me maybe two. Even if I spray on my clothes.
I have sampled the entire line and love them all without exception. A few friends have fallen in love with their Pomegranate Noir perfume which, I believe, is their best seller. It's one of the darker, sexier scents in the line and I do wear it very occasionally but prefer the lighter, girly scents for myself.
This sophisticated scent was inspired by a red silk dress and the intriguing character of pomegranate. Pomegranate Noir combines the sweet fruity notes of raspberry, plum, pink pepper and pomegranate with patchouli, frankincense and spicy woods to create a scent that’s sensual, totally sophisticated and utterly compelling.
I think every woman should try Jo Malone. You can easily request samples at the counters which are in Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms. Most of the time the sales associates are quite generous and you can walk away with a handful of vials to throw in your purse to test and find your favorite.
Arcana Oils review Halloween scents (revisited)
'Tis the season!
Typically I order Arcana oils (and Villianess soaps) from the Soap Box Company. I'm reviewing three of the oils she releases every year around Halloween.
From my experience Arcana oils smell very peppery or woody. I've tried about 6 different oils and they all smell either super peppery or woody.
Haint Perfume Oil
Description:
The sweet, melancholy essence of a Southern ghost drifting through dark mountain hollows and crumbling neo-classical mansions. White musk, vanilla musk, Madagascar vanilla, sugarcane, and a faint trail of white pepper.
One of my favorite perfume oils which sits on my shelf of favorites I rotate through (same shelf Sugar Skull sits on).
This smells very peppery which normally I don't like much but it makes the vanilla spicy. I love this smell. The  peppery spicy vanilla musk always gets me compliments from random people who ask what it is and can't pick out that this is a "vanilla" scent just something alluring and .. haunting.. (they say that! I swear!).
This smells better aged in my opinion. The bottle I am using is about two years old or more.
The sillage and throw are good. The lasting power is about 4 hours long for me. I give this an A-.
Holy Terror Perfume Oil
Description:
There are utterly somber and fearsome spirits which are known to haunt certain long-deserted chapels, monasteries, and abbeys. An unsettling, austere blend of burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles.
*Love* I love foody scents usually since I adore vanilla but this is not foody whatsoever and I adore it. This smells like incense.. great dark beautiful resinous incense and the BEAUTIFUL beeswax candles. I love this and it's very hard to describe but it's just so memorable. If you order one bottle from Arcana make sure it's Holy Terror.
The sillage and throw are awesome. The last power is awesome. I give this a solid A.
Sleepy Hollow Perfume Oil
Description:
An atmospheric ode to romantically spooky Autumn evenings, with fresh pumpkin, spiced apple brew, and bonfire smoke. Perfect for the telling of deliciously scary tales.
This is okay. I have other oils that are far more my favorite. It smells like everything it says except I smell no smoke in it. It's a cult favorite (as are the two listed above) but to me it smells almost watered down and diluted. Not a favorite but I am in the minority here.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Halloweenies (and others) 2012 (BPAL) review
BPAL  is one of my first and favorite perfume oil retailer. Most of their scents have a good throw. Their lasting power is about an hour maybe two on me for most of the oils. They have a HUGE variety of scents and their seasonal offerings are typically my favorite though a handful from their general catalog are must haves.
A few reviews for the scents I received this year:
Sugar Skull 2012
Description:
Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits.
This is one of my favorite all-time BPAL scents that has been released during the autumn more than once or twice. I try to make a point of ordering it when it's available of I can swing it and I ordered TWO bottles this year because I love it so much. It is one of the only perfume oils besides apothia's child that I have finished.
This year smells a lot more mild than my bottle of 08. It is GORGEOUS. If you are placing a halloween order at BPAL make sure that you include Sugar Skull.
This years version I seem to smell the confectionary sugar most (previously it was the brown sugar). I can smell all the other sugars playing in the background and I think it is going to age amazing. I wore it out the other day and kept sniffing my wrist to enjoy the scent as I traipsed through the fallen leaves. I received a compliment from some random person when I went to the post office saying that I smelled "lovely". I just adore this scent. Give it a try. Seriously!
Sillage and throw are great. Lasting power is great. A++++
Punkie Night 2012
Description:
Once upon a time, on a wild October night many years ago, a fair took place at Chiselborough. The men of the village of Hinton St. George made their way to the fair, and spent the night in revelry, drinking and carrying on, far into the darkest hours. Their wives grew concerned, and went looking for their unruly husbands. In order to see their way through the autumn gloom, they hollowed out mangel-wurzels and crafted them into makeshift lanterns. The drunken men, in their sloshy haze, saw the ghostly lights approaching, and believed them to be goolies — the furious spirits of unbaptized children. In terror, they fled in panic from their bemused, bewildered wives.
To this day, that night of foolishness is still celebrated! This is a light-hearted scent: apple orchards, bright cranberries, and a touch of warm cider.
Hmmm.. I loved BPAL's Autumn Cider last year and this doesn't hold up to that for me. I smell almost a boozy apple cider and what I assume are cranberries which smell almost orangey to me. It's a bitter/sour smell on my skin. Did I mention it smells boozy to me?
Sillage and throw are okay. Lasting power is okay. Solid C for me.
Fizzy Jack O'lantern
Description:
1.5 oz gin
½ oz dry sherry
½ oz lemon juice
1 tsp pumpkin butter
2 dashes of Averna amaro
Pour the gin, sherry, lemon juice, pumpkin butter, and liqueur to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake that mofo and strain it into a rocks glass filled with ice and a strong, spicy ginger ale. Stir gently, and garnish with a cinnamon stick or human finger bone.
When I received this bottle a couple weeks ago I sniffed it then put it in my cabinet. It wasn't a favorite. I am fan of most things pumpkin but the smell I got was predominantly gingerale. Revisiting this it's actually pleasant. The predominant scent is STILL gingerale but given the large amount of pumpkin scents I do have it's actually pleasant. I smell no cinnamon. I smell no pumpkin. I smell the pumpkin in the bottle but it is nonexistant on my skin. How weird.
Sillage and throw are low. Lasting power is low. A C for me just because it's a gingerale scent and I don't have many of those.
Mango-Infused Pumpkin Chai Latte
Description:
Pumpkin-spiced gunpowder tea with mango peel, red ginger, green cardamom, smoky clove buds, fennel, allspice, saffron, coconut sugar, and foamy milk.
Oh yumm and weird. At the same time. I definitely smell the mango which makes this interesting. I smell nutmeg for some reason. I smell the saffron and milk. People are going nuts on the forums at BPAL ( http://www.bpal.org ) and I suppose I can see why. This is *very* unique. Never smelt anything like it.
That said, I'm not sure I like it or will wear it. It smells like the inside of a just carved pumpkin that has had a cup of mango milk dumped in. It's comforting but just a little weird for me. I'm glad I own it because I'm curious if this  will age well but I'm not planning on wearing this anytime soon. The smell sort of turns me off and is periously close to a scrubber.
Sillage and throw are pretty good. Last power is pretty good (still smelt it three hours later when I pressed my nose against my skin). Personal preference gives this a C- from me.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS 2012
Description:
A joyous celebration of La Catarina, La Flaca, La Muerte… Glorious, Beautiful Death. In Mexico, death is not something to be feared or hated; She is embraced, loved, and adored. La Muerte is fĂȘted, as the celebrant "…chases after it, mocks it, courts it, hugs it, sleeps with it; it is his favorite plaything and his most lasting love." This is a Mexican paean to La Huesuda: dry, crackling leaves, the incense smoke of altars honoring Death and the Dead, funeral bouquets, the candies, chocolates, foods and tobacco of the ofrenda, amaranth, sweet cactus blossom and desert cereus.
Most perfumey scent I've gotten during a halloween haul from BPAL. It's lovely. I can't smell the candies or chocolate at all. It's very complex and probably deserves a more in depth review but my initial impression is that it's almost straight up florally perfume almost white flowerish with perhaps the tiniest bit of smoke in the background.
This is one Beth at BPAL has released many autumns and is beloved of many people. For me it's lovely but nothing special. I'll revisit this after it's aged a bit and see if all the other notes come out to play.
Sillage and throw are okay and perhaps more of a skin scent. Lasting power is okay. I give this a B-.
THE PERILOUS PARLOR
Description:
A memory of pleasure passed. A ghostly rendezvous, delight beyond death. Faint echoes of laughter and the distorted music of a harp drift by, along with the scent of soft white pear and sweet vanilla.
This is a rerelease of the Haunted House collection. I owned a bottle years ago and carried it with me everywhere until I lost it. I was so sad. I love this smell.
It smells exactly like pears. Creamy pears. Nothing complex. The pears dont seem tortured or haunted (though it's pretty to think so). Pears with a creamy vanilla. It is totally worth picking up.
Sillage and throw are pretty good. Lasting power is okay but I wish it lasted longer. I give this an A- because I loved it then and I love it now. Pick up a bottle if you like pears at all. You'll love it.
Final thoughts on my halloween order:
The two I loved from my order are two I've loved for a long time (sugar skull and perilous parlor). I have more coming in the mail of various scents I haven't tried before and I'm looking forward to it. I'm a bit dissapointed in the labels this year.. other than the perilous parlor which is a purple label and has a cute teapot on it the rest look like some sort of halloween jail cell background.
House of Gloi Halloween Perfume Oils etc review
House of Gloi is a new to me perfumery. I love the idea of smelling like a luscious marshmallow for some reason. Preferably burnt like on smores. It just sounds like a comforting jeans and tshirt type scent. House of Gloi has a scent called Ghost Puffs that seemed right up my alley.
My haul is the following:
Ghost Puffs Perfume Oil 5 ml.
Ghost Puffs Pumpkin Butter
Ghost Puffs Whipped Soap
FRAGRANCE:
Buttery popcorn and marshmallow goo orbs, presented on a wooden stick.
Initial Thoughts:
I'm so happy I ordered this. I do smell the buttery popcorn and the wooden stick but the marshmallow goo is amped on my skin. There is more of an artificial smell hovering in the background then I have experienced in other companies oils which perhaps is the wooden stick but within 5 minutes of applying the oil it's settled down to a very pleasant marshmallow good scent. It has decent throw since my boyfriend who is sitting across the room asked what I had just put on and when I told him he said he could definitely smell the marshmallow. As with most marshmallows I have tried the longer it is on my skin the more bubble wrappy it starts smellilng but it's so lovely that I haven't minded reapplying an hour or so later to reup the marshmallow scent. I believe the pumpkin butter does not turn to plastic but the oil does on my skin. Your experience may differ.
I also used the Whipped Soap and the pumpkin butter. The whipped soap was a fun experience for me. It has a more firm texture than I thought which I like since I won't go through the jar as fast as I thought I would. It lathered nicely and made my shower smell awesome. The pumpkin butter I adore and I smell more marshmallow in the pumpkin butter than I do in the oil somehow.
Final Thoughts:
Nice sillage. Not very long lasting (perhaps an hour or two). Fairly unique to my collection. I do recommend picking up a bottle of the perfume oil and the pumpkin butter if you have the opportunity. Smells exactly like a big fat bar of rice krispy treat to me. Which is great!
Pumpkin Eater Perfume Oil 5 ml.
FRAGRANCE:
Cream, glowing pumpkin, rich vanilla bean and the tiniest touch of nutmeg butter.
Initial Thoughts:
Yummy. This reminds me of halloween season. It's fairly simple. If you're familiar with BPAL's samhain this smells like a less complex version. Equally pleasant but with less throw.
I can smell the lovely pumpkin front and center mellowed with the sweet vanilla bean and far in the background I can detect a smidge of buttery nutmeg. I think this will age well.
Final Thoughts:
I love BPAL's Samhain. If I had to choose between Samhain and this I would pick BPALs. However . the buttery note in this is really enticing and I know that I will wear this alot. The throw/sillage seems decent and perhaps a little more than the Ghost Puffs. I do detect a slight artificial note but only when I press my nose against my skin. I think it's lovely.
Olde Cider Haus Bubbling Scrub
FRAGRANCE:
Old oak, sweet drying hay fields, crushed apple pulp and vanilla bean husks.
Initial Thoughts:
Oh this is nice. I love the texture of the bubbling scrub. It lathers up quite nicely. Even more thant he whipped soap. The smell is very Autumn in New England (reminds me of the Big Apple in Wrentham, MA to be honest).
Final Thoughts:
Lovely scent. If I had the money I would go for a bottle.
______________________________________________________________
Pumpkin Queen Soap Bar
FRAGRANCE:
Gentle hay pillows, pumpkin, ripe peaches dusted with clove and nutmeg, dried summer herbs, and lastly, a lovely crown of amber.
Initial Thoughts:
Smells like a sexier, more earthy version of Pumpkin Eater. I think I would almost prefer this in an oil. It is a bit more complex (probably obvious given the # of notes). I think I love the dried summer herb portion of this as well as the amber. I can't smell the peach much at all.
Final Thoughts:
I am putting this on my list to pick up next year in oil form.
______________________________________________________________
My thoughts on House of Gloi are that the quality of the pumpkin butter is awesome and it seemed to carry the scent in a wonderful fluffy cloud of lotion that made my skin soft. I would definitely repurchase.
The oils are nice but both had an artificial plasticky scent to them that perhaps comes from the carrier oil since they didn't share any note. I don't hate it but I wouldn't break down the doors or haunt the site to buy. If you're looking to try a marshmallow type oil I do recommend giving their ghost puffs a try.
The shipping was super fast. I received my order about a week after I placed it and I'm on the opposite coast.
Beginnings
Hi all!
I am lover of all things girly so I decided to start a review blog. I hope to meet all of you who share my interests and get your thoughts on my favorite things. My favorite season is Autumn in New England so it's a great time for me to begin.
I plan on being very honest in my reviews and also to compare various companies. Some of the things that I love are perfume oils, soaps, body creams, candles, and makeup. I love indy houses of perfume and intend to do a lot of reviews and comparisons. So keep posted and if you have requests please send them my way.
Cheers!
